STARS4Water produces scientific information on climate change, water availability, hydrological conditions, vulnerabilities and adaptation options across European river basins. Story Maps help translate these technical outputs into accessible, web-based visual narratives by combining maps, images, text and interactive elements. Rather than presenting all project results, they guide users through the most relevant messages on current challenges, future impacts and possible adaptation pathways.

In this tutorial, you will discover how co-created STARS4Water Story Maps are developed, from defining the purpose and key messages to stakeholder co-creation, visual design, implementation in ArcGIS StoryMaps, review and publication. The tutorial also explains why stakeholder involvement is central to the process and introduces the main design principles used to make scientific information engaging, understandable and relevant for decision-makers and wider audiences.
