Ecological or environmental flows are the water requirements to support rivers and connect ecosystems. River flows may be impacted under climate change or human influence, which alters the water available to support ecosystems. Therefore, it is important to model the risk of change to environmental flows as it can help with water management decision making, ensuring there is enough water for both humans and the environment
This webinar introduces a tool used for evaluating the risk to ecological systems due to changing river flows. This could be for climate change or the construction of a dam, for example. The tool is called ERFA which stands for Ecological risk due to Flow alteration.
Learning Objectives
- To understand the importance of ecological flows and why we should study future changes
- To explore how to use the ERFA tool
Target Audience
