This webinar presents the RIBASIM water allocation model developed for the Rhine Basin. It models water use, supply, allocation and shortage during periods of low flow and water scarcity. It displays the model layout (“network”) and components (“nodes” and “links”), the modelling assumptions and the results obtained for three different climate change and socio-economic scenarios. The scenario development and their key parameters are also discussed.

Learning Objectives

  • Get insights into the RIBASIM Rhine model: What it looks like [network], How you can broadly use it, Generated results
  • Get insights on the water resources allocation and use within the Rhine Basin during situations of low flow and water scarcity

Target Audience

  • Water managers, water researchers, policy makers
  • Key Rhine stakeholders (CHR, ICPR, CCNR) wanting to better understand the impact of climate change and socio-economic changes on Rhine discharges to support policy decisions
  • Useful for anyone, wanting to: use RIBASIM for their own analysis; Better understand water resources allocation and use in the Rhine; Mitigate identified shortages
