SUMMARY:UNECE ‘Global Workshop on Droughts in Transboundary Basins’ and the 14th Meeting of the ‘Taskforce on Water and Climate’\, Geneva Switzerland
DESCRIPTION:The Global Workshop on Droughts in Transboundary Basins is organized under the auspices of the Water Convention serviced by UNECE\, under the leadership of the Netherlands and Switzerland\, in cooperation with UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD)\, United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR)\, World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) and the International Network of Basin Organisations (INBO). \nThe global workshop will bring together water\, agriculture\, climate and environment communities as well as drought experts to jointly discuss best practices and lessons learned in addressing droughts in transboundary basins.  Working languages of the workshop will be English\, French\, Russian and Spanish. \nThe workshop will be followed by the fourteenth meeting of the Task Force on Water and Climate under the Water Convention on 28 February 2024\, which will review all climate change activities as well as plans for the future under the Convention. \nSTARS4Water will participated and present in the Workshop. \nFor more information visit the Workshop webpage \nThe Workshop Programme is available here

SUMMARY:STARS4Water Annual General Assembly and Steering Group Meetings\, Heraklion Crete
DESCRIPTION:STARS4Water will hold its annual General Assembly meeting in Heraklion Crete on the 10-12th of October 2023. The meeting is organized by Deltares and the Region of Crete\, and supported by SEVEN. During this all partners’ meeting will we discuss the up-to-date project progress\, will interact across teams and work packages\, and will plan ahead for the 2nd year of our project. A field trip to the Messara River Basin Hub is also planned\, where the participants will visit the basin area\, the Faneromeni Dam and the control room of the Local Land Reclamation Organisation (TOEV) of Zone A’ of Messara\, and will have the opportunity to interact with local stakeholders. The Deputy Regional Governor will address an opening speech.

SUMMARY:STARS4Water Special Session in the 40th IAHR World Congress: Stakeholder driven unlocking of data for river basin management
DESCRIPTION:Theme:\nAccording to IPCC\, worldwide freshwater resources are under increasing pressures of rapidly intensifying climate change effects putting the availability and quality of water resources and socio-economic developments at risk. To face this\, better quantitative assessments and projections of the impacts of climate change on the water resources availability and water-related risks for society\, ecology and economic sectors are needed\, and the activities of the STARS4Water project have the ambition to provide this (EU Grant Agreement 101059372). To this end\, STARS4Water develops\, delivers and demonstrates new data services and data-driven models for better supporting the decision making on planning on actions for adaptive\, resilient and sustainable management of freshwater resources. \nFocus of the STARS4Water special session:\nDuring this special session we will have an interactive dialogue between the audience and members of the panel (representing the scientific and river basin organisations community) to discuss the (hampering) uptake of available global data sources (incl. remote sensing) into current river basin planning and climate adaptation studies on the river basin scale. \nBased on several questions and propositions\, we will discuss the needs of stakeholders in river basins and what knowledge and innovative developments are needed to unlock the full potential of new and under-used datasets that support their work and decision making. Four panellists are invited to provide their experience and knowledge on this topic. SUMMARY:STARS4Water Stakeholders Workshop on the Rhine hub
DESCRIPTION:STARS4Water will hold its 1st Workshop with the stakeholders of the Rhine River Basin in Bienne (CH) on the 29th of March 2023. The Workshop will be held back-to-back with the official biannual meeting of the International Commission for the Hydrology of the Rhine Basin (CHR). The CHR is the Rhine commission in which all riparian countries work together to provide a scientific knowledge base for the hydrology of the Rhine catchment area. The CHR makes research results available to scientists\, decision-makers and stakeholders in the region. Key organizations in this respect are the International Commission for the Protection of the Rhine (ICPR) and the Central Commission for Navigation of the Rhine (CCNR). The CHR supports them with reliable science-based information for the implementation of guidelines\, policy\, management and decision-making. The aim of the STARS4Water Workshop is to present\, on one hand\, the STARS4Water project scope and where it fits in the Rhine River Basin’s own process\, and to engage\, on the other hand\, in a dialogue and a co-development process with the stakeholders represented by the ICPR and CCR secretariats. During the workshop we will discuss: the main issues for water resources management in the Rhine under changing climate\, the needs for data and/or modeled information for getting a better understanding of the system\, the needs for accessible and actionable information to support planning and decision making (water balances\, safe operating space\, solutions\, etc.).
